Etchy

Support

Etchy runs on iPhone and iPad with iOS 17 or later, and on Macs with macOS 14 Sonoma or later. One purchase covers all three.

How do my notebooks get to my other devices?

Through your own iCloud. Sign in to iCloud on each device and your notebooks stay in step between them, usually within seconds. The last line of the Look sheet says whether iCloud is in use: open it from the palette button in the library, or ⋯ › Look… while writing (on the Mac, Etchy › Settings).

To keep notebooks off iCloud, turn iCloud off for Etchy in Settings. Your notebooks stay on each device.

I wrote in the same notebook on two devices while one was offline

When they meet again, each page is put together stroke by stroke: what you wrote on either device is kept, and what you erased on either is gone. Pages added on either keep their places. Deleting a notebook or a page on one device deletes it on all of them.

Where are my notebooks kept?

On each device, in Etchy's own folder, so they are there without a connection. With iCloud, a copy is also in your private iCloud storage, which only you can reach, and that is how a new device gets them.

How do I change the look, or the app icon?

In the Look sheet: tap a look to change the app, and choose an icon under App Icon. The icon is chosen apart from the look, so the Home Screen only changes when you ask. On the Mac, the icon shows in the Dock while Etchy is open.

My Pencil doesn't seem to feel pressure

The Apple Pencil (USB-C) has no pressure sensor, so Etchy gives its strokes weight from how fast you write: slower is heavier. Pencils with pressure and tilt use both.

My lines keep turning into shapes

Holding the pen still at the end of a stroke snaps it to the line, circle or box it looks like. Move on before you lift and it stays as drawn, or turn it off with ⋯ › Snap Shapes When Held.
